What initially inspired you to become an artist, and how did you develop your unique style?

I have loved creating since I was a child and I would often be found colouring, drawing and painting for hours. The inspiration to be an artist comes from my inner creativity and interpretation of everyday objects.

In terms of subject matter, what themes or motifs do you frequently explore in your work, and what draws you to these topics?

I do not paint based on one subject or theme, I let the colours and canvas show me what to create.

As an artist who believes in expressing what words cannot through art, how do you inspire others to explore healthy outlets for self-healing?

Creativity and art is a healthy outlet for expressing all sorts of emotions. It can help clear the mind and lets you put your frustrations, love, hurt, joy onto a canvas. I have used this technique with others to show them how beneficial it can be. I particularly love doing this with my children, who enjoy the process of having no rules in art. Your heart and your feelings choose your technique and colours.

Can you share an example of a specific artwork you created that aimed to encourage others to use art as a tool for self-healing? What message did you intend to convey, and how did you hope it would impact viewers?

One of my most memorable sketches I used to help others related to body dysmorphia. Here I sketched a lady holding up to different ‘skins’, trying to decide which one she could wear.

Can you discuss a specific piece or project that challenged you as an artist, and how you overcome those challenges?

One of my most challenging pieces was an oil painting of a sea view from a cliff edge. My logical brain was telling me how things should look, but this did not create the emotion and depth I was after. After days of tweaking and adjusting and throwing convention out the window, I managed to achieve the desired outcome. The colours are vibrant and the texture feels like each natural material, water, earth etc.

How do you stay connected with other artists and keep up with new developments and trends in the art world?

I enjoy viewing other artists’ techniques and creations, I believe it is essential to be open minded and remember we can all learn from others. It inspires me seeing the videos and photos on social media of other artists creations.

How do you incorporate feedback from critics and audiences into your artistic practice, and how do you balance this feedback with your own artistic intuition?

I value feedback from others. I find it helps me see things from a view point I maybe had not considered before. And I will always give their suggestions a go if it feels right to me.

How do you stay motivated and inspired despite any setbacks or creative blocks you may encounter?

Creative block is something I used to feel overwhelmed with. Now, when I feel like this, I take myself out into nature, clear my mind and then return to the canvas. I love to listen to music while painting, selecting the right music is key when creating for me.

How do you feel about exhibiting your artworks with The Holy Art Gallery?

I am looking forward to exhibiting it with the Holy Art Gallery. I am keen to gain feedback and I hope people enjoy the art they encounter.

Looking ahead, what are your long-term goals and aspirations as an artist, and how do you plan to achieve them?

My long-term goal I suppose is like any other artist. To be become a recognized artist and to create commissions and sell my art regularly both prints and originals. For my passion to become my life work.
