The Holy Art Tales: Laura James Van Dyke

Laura James Van Dyke is a recent graduate who focused her studies on surfaces and textured surface design, which she worked on alongside her love of textiles. Despite working purely in textiles since 2015, her time at university had her delve into ceramics and screen printing, allowing her to learn techniques that she uses in her work today. Laura’s time playing with ceramics is what allowed her to take the plunge to start working 3D, and helped her explore the possibilities of what her work could be. Her work focuses on the use of dyeing, painting, printing and stitching in order to tell a story. The work she makes has a unique flair due to her ability to combine any new technique she learns with her knowledge of textiles, allowing her to include new methods within her work. Laura has a lot of pride in knowing that the work she makes has the ability to continue evolving and improving due to this talent.
